Farwest Drill Team and Trick Riders

Farwest Bareback Riders is an exciting and colorful horse riding team. The team was organized in 2004 by Joan Haney and Mary Lou Morgan. Mary Lou is a former Ah Capa Drill Team member. They are a Patriotic bridleless bareback and trick riding club.

FTBR consists of spunky female riders 6 and up. They currently have 15 riders. Farwest Farms hosts and trains the drill team and trick riding members and their horses. Riders at all levels are welcome! Bring your horse or lease a horse.

The drill team controls their horse's movements by using their seat, legs and a liberty rein around the horses neck. The horses and riders have to be able to trot and lope bare back with a liberty rein to perform. Many hours are spent schooling members and their horses.

Our mission is promote the wonderful sport of rodeo, to teach members advanced horsemanship skills, leadership, teamwork, and to help disabled children and disabled veterans. We offer recreational and therapeutic riding on a regular basis to the disabled. This program is called “Freedom Riding”. Our horses give the disabled the opportunity to experience freedom from the confinement of a wheelchair. We have seen first hand that riding helps with coordination, muscle building, and helps lift spirits immensely.

We are looking for sponsors. Sponsorship helps defray the cost of operating expenses for the team and helps us make a difference for the disabled! FBTR is donating all proceeds from performances to help disabled children and veterans. They are working with the Wishing Star Foundation and disabled veterans. We look forward to seeing you at the wheel chair games next July! Won’t you join us in this worthy cause by supporting our team, disabled children and disabled veterans?

Farwest Bareback/Trick Riders have performed in rodeo's, parades, "Ride the West Horse Expo" and "The Draft Horse International" in Sandpoint, Idaho. We will be at "Ride the West Horse Expo" in 2009. The team is currently booking performances for the 2009 season. Feel free to contact us if you are interested in becoming a member of Farwest Bareback/Trick Riders or having this group perform at one of your events.

Please contact Joan Haney via email at: farwestfarmsllc@aol.com or call (509) 276-8521. Performances are available on DVD or VHS.
